What do we all think of a Chinese Pupu Buffet, BYOB, with first class entertainment at New Star Restaurant on Kilauea Ave. in downtown Hilo? Private room upstairs? Of course spouses and significant others are invited! I can negotiate a good price that includes the entertainment of course and we bring our own booze. The restaurant is excellent and it is Chinese New Year of the DRAGON! (Who is really a wild Chinese Cardinal at heart! ) I have racked my brains and made so many calls (that) I forgot who is who and what is what, so can I go ahead and book this?
ACTION NEEDED >>> O.K. People... WE NEED A CONSENSUS SO CHARMAINE DOESN'T GO OUT ON A LIMB IN RESERVING THE RESTAURANT. PLEASE, PLEASE, IF YOU ARE COMING, EMAIL HER OR CALL HER SO SHE KNOWS THE HEADCOUNT. RSVP to her via this news letter, or her e-mail cka-ipo@hiloarc.org or cell 808 756 0879.
I feel we can do this for $25 per head all inclusive! The lei are $5 per head and that would be for 13 lei. The luau is $35 per head and that is payable to the Luau committee of course. I will find out exactly to whom. Probably alumni is in charge of that. Total per person $65 for all festivities. Ice, plastic cups and punch is included. I need a count!!!!!!
For 1962 and 1963 classmates. We want to include 1963 in the Friday and Saturday events. I don’t have any info yet on the mass which I believe is scheduled on that Friday during the day???? If so we will need to plan to attend and present the lei at that time. Or? Sunday? I can arrange a special class mass at Malia Puka O Kalani for Sunday at 9am w/Father Wilson. He gets us; I just love him. So would all of you. He is so open and loving! REFRESHING!!! Should the class of 1963 want to honor their classmates who are in heaven…. let me know so I can ask my lei maker to add on 13 more. With losing Mac they too hit the magic number! Keeping Sr. Thecla mucho busy counting heads up there! Love you all! - Charmaine

Aloha dear classmates - (And class of 1963, too!)
The price of the ticket for the luau is $35. The luau committee called me and I reserved the front long tables. The cost went up the last few years from the original $25. That is firm and I need to contact all of the classmates who are coming so please RSVP to me via the news letter or my e-mail cka-ipo@hiloarc.org or cell 808 756 0879.
The hotel for those who need rooms, is called Hilo Seaside and I am waiting for an Alumni rate. It is the old Hukilau Hotel right across the ice pond. I am working on the Friday night party….no host cocktails and heavy pupu. I think that I can get it catered for $25/pp and possible venues are the Naniloa or Hilo Hawaiian or the Seaside. The Seaside has a private room that holds 60 only. Then, I thought of Nani Mau gardens which holds 100 plus. I will hold the heavy pupu cost to $25 per head. I want to keep this down to no more than $100 a couple. I thought we could all head over to Kona on Tuesday since Monday is Memorial Day. We want to continue with golf and pupu parties on the Kona side since some of the classmates have accommodations there like Ed and Lulu and Joe Pau and Elsie… The lei, if I order them for our passed on classmates would be ti leaf with the red and gold ribbons. What is the consensus on that? Each lei about $3-$5. Again the Kona Seaside or King Kam in Kona is pretty reasonable on the Kona side. - Love to all!

Just found out that the pupu party room at the Hilo Seaside can only accommodate 60 max. However….they may shut down the restaurant for us since it can accommodate 80. We will see! I asked for a price per head for no host cocktails and heavy heavy pupu for 100. I also have another place in mind. But it all depends on the number of folks attending. I am so hoping for 80-100 including spouses. That would be two classes of course - Class of 62 & 63. - Charm

(We could be) looking at cocktails and heavy heavy pupu the night before the luau for the two classes. (25th May) I guess the Bacc. Mass is on the 25th (Friday) and the luau is the 26th..(Sat.) I am waiting for a contact name so we can make reservations for our class and for the class of 1963. I would like to reserve all the seats by the first week of March. Reason? It is a sold out event and they wait for the honored class to take the front tables first. I told them that the class of 1963 will also be present with us. Tickets are usually $25 for the luau. Could have gone up but will see. The pupu party for the classes and spouses could be potluck or catered. Depending on the number of attendees. A great catered affair would be $20 per head including tip. No Host cocktails, culminated with and a picnic on Sunday at the beach. Cook out. What do ya think? Keeping the costs down to a minimum of course....I estimate catering and luau would be under fifty per head. - Charm
12/28/2011 10:00 AM HT - I would suggest 13 lei, then read their names at the mass and place them on the alter at the (Baccalaureate Mass) then transfer to the Luau the next night and place with the year book or their photos on the head table. We can then mention their names again if we wanted to so that we will include them in the festivities. I will contact the school and find out who is chairing the events. Main thing is I can secure rooms at the Hilo Seaside at a great rate so who needs room for two nights? I will post the rates and the address and phone number for the Seaside. - Charm cka-ipo@hiloarc.org
